International Day against Violence against Women

The International Day against Violence against Women is a day of action and commemoration to combat all forms of discrimination and violence against girls

On this day, women's and human rights groups draw attention to violations of women's human rights. Topics such as trafficking in women, forced prostitution, sexual abuse, domestic violence, rape, female circumcision, female poverty and femicide are the focus of the actions. The background of the memorial day is the brutal abduction, torture and finally murder of the three Sisters Mirabal in the Dominican Republic in 1960, who had protested against the military regime. In 1999, the United Nations declared November 25 as the International Day of Remembrance against Violence against Women.
